The Parent Teacher Organization for Central Elementary School Coosa County has held a successful fundraiser through its “Adopt a Classroom” program.
Jennifer Tindall, vice president of the CES PTO, said that during one of the organization’s meetings they were reviewing the budget and finances. She explained that the budget was tight this year because the organization was unable to do much fundraising last year because of COVID-19.
She mentioned various fundraising opportunities that were not feasible last year because of the person to person contact and it being a frightening time to try to do fundraisers.
During that meeting and discussion, Tindall said she asked if they had tried to do monetary donations before to raise funds. The organization said it had not really tried that before and asked Tindall to explain.
She said that people want to help the organization and schools and that she’d had people ask her about helping. She said that people want to give back and just needed an opportunity to be able to do so.
With that conversation in mind, Tindall later called CES Principal Kara Forbus and pitched the idea to her of an “Adopt a Classroom” fundraiser. She explained to Forbus that for a monetary donation, individuals or businesses could adopt a classroom.
As a way to help make up for the loss of fundraiser revenue from last year, the organization agreed and kicked off the Adopt a Classroom program. For an “adoption fee” of $150, donors could adopt a classroom and help cover the costs of various expenses and projects such as extra copies, snacks for students during state testing week, Accelerated Reader prizes for students quarterly, teacher appreciation sodas and snacks two to three times per year, teacher appreciation meal during Teacher Appreciation Week, coffee and coffee supplies for the teacher lounge, faculty shirts for new faculty members, and other incentives for student motivation.
The adopted classroom will also send the donor a special thank you note to show the students’ and staff’s appreciation.
Tindall said that with the fundraiser opportunity approved, they hit the ground running. She credited Kimberly Crowe with also being a “big help” in the fundraiser effort, saying that she helped out of the kindness of her heart to help the fundraiser be a success.
Tindall was excited to report that they exceeded their fundraising goal. As of press time, the Adopt a Classroom fundraiser had raised a total of $2,197 for the CES PTO.
Tindall said they would like to think the “adopters” who made the fundraiser successful and helped the organization through the Adopt a Classroom effort.
Those who adopted classrooms and helped with funds for the PTO are Circuit Clerk Anita Spivey, Teel & Teel P.C., Circuit Judge David Law, Judge of Probate Richard Dean, Town of Rockford, Commissioner Ronnie Joiner, First Bank, Twenty-Two & Crew, Mayor Scott White, Robert Shaw, Triple R Cafe with two classrooms, Affordable Lawn Care, Goodwater Pharmacy, Coosa County Family Dentistry, AltaPointe with two classrooms, and Nancy Kirby Law.
The CES PTO thanks these sponsors for their donations, and while the goal for this fundraising project has been reached, the organization is continuing to accept donations to further help the students, teachers and classrooms.
Tindall said that donations of any amount are appreciated. For convenience, the PTO prefers money orders made out to Central Elementary School, and no cash or business checks can be accepted.
Donations can be taken to Tindall at Rockford Town Hall or can be mailed to The Town of Rockford; ATTN: Jennifer Tindall; P.O. Box 128; Rockford, AL 35136.
