The Weogufka Center is hosting and sponsoring a scarecrow contest later this month, and all area residents are encouraged to join in the fun for a chance to win a cash prize.
The scarecrow contest will be held September 24, with scarecrows on display for the entire month of October. Gaylen Adams with the Weogufka Center said that they will have outside judges not affiliated with the center to determine the winners.
All entries will be numbered, and participants will remain anonymous until the day of the winning announcement.
There will be cash prizes for three winners, including $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place. Winners will be announced at Weogufka’s Old Farm Day on October 30.
There is no entry fee, and it is free to participate in the contest. Adams said that they would like to have as many entries as possible.
Those wishing to participate are encouraged to build their scarecrows and set up their displays at the Weogufka Center on September 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. They will have free hot dogs for all who enter.
“I thought it would be so much fun for people to ‘drive by’ after they have been set up and displayed, kind of like Christmas lights, but a scarecrow village,” Adams said. “I think it will be a lot of fun!”
Participants are also more than welcome to add to their displays with fall décor and other items, such as pumpkins, cornstalks, mums, and more.
Adams described it as a “great community project,” and it will be a fun free activity for families and individuals alike as they get into the spirit of the fall season.
