The body of a missing Colorado man involved in a single-vessel accident that occurred on Lake Martin at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday, September 2, has been recovered.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency initially reported that the search was ongoing for the man who had been identified as 24-year-old Zachary Dakota Lewis of Parker, Colorado.
According to ALEA, Lewis was boating with a group of friends near Big Kowaliga Creek on Lake Martin close to Willow Point Golf Course when he exited the vessel and disappeared beneath the water’s surface. A multitude of law enforcement and rescue agencies searched for Lewis until 2 a.m. last Friday, September 3, and resumed the search again at 8 a.m. last Friday.
The search was finally completed at approximately 7:38 p.m. Sunday, September 5, when Lewis’s body was found in the Big Kowaliga Creek area near the golf course.
Members of the Alexander City Rescue Squad, Alexander City Fire Department, Childersburg Rescue Squad, Houston County Rescue Squad, TowBoat U.S., and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division worked throughout the day to search and locate Lewis. The incident remains under investigation by the ALEA Marine Patrol Division.
