Kickball Tournament fun day for all
Special to the News
On Saturday, August 14, the young men of Hwy. 22 East Podcast and the J. D. Thompson High School Alumni Association hosted a Kickball Tournament in Cottage Grove.
The grounds of the old J. D. Thompson High School campus came alive with the laughter of all age groups enjoying each other and the Kickball Tournament. The sunny day, food, smiling children, and family members cheering the teams on was reminiscent of the old school May Day that the community enjoyed back in the day.
The teams that participated in the tournament were The Little Rascals, New Home Baptist Church and Seleeta Baptist Church. Each of the teams worked hard to claim the trophy, but the winning team was The Little Rascals.
The New Home Baptist Church, with Pastor Christopher Todd and the church family, came ready to play, wearing matching team shirts. They cheered hard for their team, but lost to Alexander City’s Seleeta Baptist Church.
Pastor Tracy Burton and the Seleeta Church family were dressed in their team colors, but unfortunately could not cheer their team to victory against The Little Rascals.
The family day of fun provided other activities that included The Grove Food Stand, serving hot dogs, fish sandwiches, drinks and popsicles; an area for seniors; and a children’s area with horseshoes, bowling and T-ball. All participants to the event were encouraged to wear a mask.
This event was successful thanks to the hard work of so many people that are too many to name, but include, our faithful volunteers, churches and supportive community.
We appreciate everyone that contributed food and financial donations for the event. Also, we want to thank the Cottage Grove Dollar General on Alabama Highway 22, the Rockford Volunteer Fire Department, “The Coosa County News” for advertising the event, and the young men of Highway 22 East Podcast for being our partner.
