Rockford man arrested for impersonating officer
By Christa Jennings
Herbert Brown
A Rockford man is in custody at the Coosa County Jail after allegedly impersonating an officer.
Sheriff Michael Howell reported that on August 6 an individual called the Sheriff’s Office reporting that a person was on their property off of County Road 29 and that he refused to leave.
Deputy Scott and Reserve Deputy Peyton responded to the scene. There, they found 58-year-old Herbert Brown of the Rockford area.
Howell reported that Brown had flashlights and a piece of PVC pipe that he was waving around. Reportedly, Brown stated that he was a U.S. Marshall, provided a badge number and said that he was undercover.
Brown allegedly continued to maintain that he was an undercover U.S. Marshall. He was then arrested on the scene and charged with impersonating a peace officer.
Brown’s bond was set at $5,000, and as of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
Anyone who suspects or observes illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
