Youth need to know practical skills
I may be an old buzzard, and sometimes my memory fails me, but whatever happened to vocational education in this county? How many years has the tech school been closed?
There may not be many students any more, but the ones we have are sorely in need of learning some practical magic. Like reading a tape measure, sewing on a button and maybe cooking. Every southerner, no matter how old, needs to know how to fry chicken and make sweet tea.
Honestly, kids these days are so addicted to their phones and their computer games (kinda’ like their parents) that they don’t have any hands-on experience doing anything.
I don’t want to suggest a babysitting program or even a substitute parent program, but maybe local businesses and governments could cook up an intern program for school credit.
Sometimes I am just too idealistic. Like thinking up a town/county grant program….hmmm. Sometimes I just need to sit in a dead pine tree, dry my feathers and be your eye in the sky.
Love,
Buzzy
