In My Humble Opinion

Catching up on news updates
There seems to be a good bit of activity happening in Coosa County! Sorry I missed last week so I’m going back a bit for news updates.
Exciting news about the possibility of getting an animal shelter AND getting our Health Department back. Plus more discussion about an ambulance service to be stationed in Rockford to help cut the response time to the outlying areas of the county. All of these are great steps forward for our citizens – two and four legged!
Thanks to Dennis Hill for taking the lead on the animal shelter. There has been discussion off and on, but no one stepped forward to take the bull by the horns and find out how to make it happen. It sounds like he has done his homework by reaching out to the right people for guidance. Every county is actually required by Alabama law to have a shelter, but somehow we have skated through all these years. Now it’s time to meet our obligations. For all of you who have been asking for a shelter, I hope you will get involved with the fundraising and volunteering that will be needed. This will be a county-wide venture.
And, thanks to Sheldon Hutcherson with our Coosa EMA for researching the return of our county health department. If this can be pulled off it will be another service that we MUST utilize to keep. They pulled out before because of not enough people taking advantage of it. It seems it may be more centrally located in Hanover this time so maybe that will make a difference. We can’t complain about not having services and then not use them. Again – it will be up to the citizens of Coosa County to make it happen.
My big personal news is that I am now back at home in Equality for good! I signed a contract to sell our place on Peckerwood Creek – 3 days after listing it. This has been a 4-year adventure when we bought that house as a second home originally, and then decided to move there and sell in Equality – but that dragged on until Larry’s cancer came back. After his death, I thought I would go ahead with the move to the creek, but then came to my senses and decided to come back home. I’m so glad I made that decision, but now trying to downsize two houses at the same time to fit into the smaller of the two has become a real challenge. But, I have the rest of my life to unpack and organize.
During our trip to Myrtle Beach I was able to visit some with a friend of mine who is first-generation American with family still in Cuba. I am so in hope that this revolution that is starting will be able to rid that island of the Communists so they can return to the glory days of the past. No one without direct contact with the people still on the island really understands the true living conditions there – just like Venezuela and other Communist/Socialist countries. I wish all of these liberals who are promoting the Communist/Socialist takeover of America would just move to one of these countries and leave the rest of us alone. I would gladly chip in to cover their one-way tickets by air or sea. Or, our president could work out a trade with those governments – we can give them three unhappy Americans for every Cuban or Venezuelan who wants freedom.
Our government has even announced that any Cubans coming in to the U.S. will be returned, yet the southern border is wide open to anyone and everyone – regardless of age, country of origin, medical status, etc. They get let through with open arms and then provided with transportation to get to their new free life at the expense of the American taxpayers. I would much rather my tax dollars go to help someone escape to FREEDOM instead of run to FREEBIES!
One last thing before I close. I also saw in last week’s edition that the County Commission is going to try having two meetings a month – one in the morning and one in the evening. There is no reason that you can’t make it to one of these each month. If no one shows up for the evening meeting it will be canceled again, and we will never get it back. I’m not exactly sure how the topics of the meeting will be divided, but PLEASE get involved! We cannot complain about what the County Commission IS or ISN’T doing if we don’t attend the meetings and offer our opinions. And the same goes if you live in Rockford, Kellyton, or Goodwater. If you want to know what is going on, don’t depend on the reports in the paper – go hear and see for yourself.
Please continue your prayers for our country – we are in desperate need of a revival!
