Salem man dies in Lee County crash

A single vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, has claimed the life of a Salem man.
Marquez D. Thomas, 25, was fatally injured when the 2011 Hyundai Sonata he was driving ran off the roadway while negotiating a curve, struck a culvert and overturned. Thomas was not utilizing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected.
The crash occurred on Alabama Highway 51 north near the 103 mile marker, approximately nine miles south of Opelika, in Lee County. Thomas was transported to Piedmont Medical Center in Columbus, Ga., where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
