On Saturday, June 19, Irene Beasley’s family and friends gathered at Bradford United Methodist Church to celebrate her one hundredth birthday.
“I was so surprised to see everyone who turned out for my birthday celebration,” said Beasley. “I knew nothing at all about it; they planned for two months and kept it a secret from me.”
Ninety-four people showed up to celebrate Beasley’s life. The party was planned by her son, Phillip, and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Beasley, who reside in the same area of Coosa County.
“The party was so much fun,” shared Beasley. “I waited 100 years to have that much fun!”
The celebration included refreshments, photos from her lifetime were shared, and a 1921 newspaper fact board was displayed.
Family came from Georgia and Virginia to be in attendance. There was lots of fun had by everyone who attended.
One of nine children, Beasley was born in 1921 in Coosa County and has resided in the Bradford community, near Kellyton, her whole life.
Beasley has been a member of Bradford United Methodist Church since 1947. Over the years she has been actively involved in her community and church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
“Family and church means everything to me,” said Beasley. “I live for my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
Beasley has three grandsons, one granddaughter and nine great-grandchildren.
Beasley’s actual birthday was June 23. She enjoyed the day and went to lunch with family.
“I don’t know what it feels like to be 100,” she said. “This is my first experience at this age.”
