Edmund W. Pettus Camp #574, Sons of Confederate Veterans, awarded the $500 Edward Porter Alexander Memorial Scholarship (2021) to Elijah McWhorter of Horseshoe Bend High School.
Local high school seniors were asked to write an essay about the official treaty alliance between the American Indian tribes of the South (Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, Creek/Muscogee, and Seminole) and the Confederate States of America.
Members of the Pettus Camp wish the greatest of success to Elijah as he continues his educational pursuits at Southern Union Community College and Auburn University and thank him for his efforts in putting together a quality essay.
