May 22

Multi-family yard sale (Hammond, Mullendore and Rogers) will be held Saturday, May 22, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Rockford United Methodist Church, U.S. Highway 231 in Rockford city limits. Assorted housewares, shoes, books, bedspreads, quilts, clothes in assorted sizes, and 50 pairs of size 4 pants. Cash only.

 

May 24

The Coosa County Republican Party will meet Monday, May 24, at the E-911 building conference room, located on Communication Drive in Rockford. Refreshments begin at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

 

May 27

The Coosa County Farmers and Civic Association meeting with 2021 elections will be held Thursday, May 27, at 5:30 p.m. at the Peace & Goodwill Coosa County Life Center foyer. For additional information contact Unzell Kelley at uzkelley@gmail.com or 256-496-0263.

 

June 1

The summer program for the Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center kicks off on June 1. The summer program ends July 30. For more information call Sharonna Hayes at 256-743-1252.

 

June 1-29

The Goodwater Library’s Summer Program starts on June 1 and continues every Tuesday in June. The theme this summer is “Tails and Tales.” The program is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the library. On June 8 Coosa Extension will present the program; June 15 will be Alabama Archives; June 22 will be Jim Phillips (Lost Treasures and Places of Antebellum Alabama); and on June 29 Annette Bohannon will present the program.

 

June 5

The Equality VFD will hold its monthly First Saturday Fundraiser on Saturday, June 5. They will have hamburgers, hot dogs, a bake sale, and a rummage sale in Equality at the old fire station (by the Quality Gas Station) on Alabama Highway 9. Lunch will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bake sale starts at 8 a.m., and the rummage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come out to enjoy the day while supporting your local volunteer fire department!

The 83rd Weogufka Alumni Reunion will be held June 5 at 4 p.m. at Weogufka High School. We will be honoring the classes of 1970 and 1971. The event will be held outside near the old oak tree behind the school and will be casual dress. Dinner will be $20 per person. Reservations must be made no later than Tuesday, June 1, by contacting Julie Turney at 256-404-4152 or Julie Turney on Facebook. There will be music and karaoke provided by Wendall Duncan. Participation in karaoke and other games is strongly encouraged. Please join us in continuing this long standing tradition.

Coosa County 4-H is accepting registrations for 4-H Summer Camp, which will be held June 7-9 at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana. Please call or visit the Extension office in Rockford for more information at 256-377-4713.

 

June 7-July 19

The Summer Reading Program sponsored by the Rockford Public Library will be held on Mondays from June 7 through July 19 at 2 p.m. Specific dates are: June 7, June 14, June 21, June 28, July 12, and July 19. The program will be held at the Rockford Public Library located inside Town Hall on U.S. Highway 231. Story by Tina Clanton with Horseshoe Bend Regional Library. Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

The Hanover Neighborhood Watch Meeting is held every third Tuesday of the month at the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department building at 6:30 p.m. Always a meal before the meeting begins. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System Food Safety Team is working hard to provide food safety information to our clients in Alabama. This year, the food safety agents will provide current information on various subjects on the first Tuesday of every month at noon. We ask you to join us LIVE @acesfoodsafety on Facebook. Questions for the “Tuesday’s Table Talk” may be submitted to www.aces.edu/go/TableTalkTuesdays. The panel will answer questions live on Facebook @acesfoodsafety. Topics are planned for the first Tuesday of each month from now through November. Upcoming topics include “Tips for Summer BBQs” for June 1, “Drying, Pickling and Fermentation” for July 6, and “Starting a Food Business” for August 3.
