Save pets by opening home, adopting
Pet of the Week: Scarlet
A reminder that if you are seeking a pet to adopt, please review the pets available at the humane shelters close by; they have quite a selection, and all of them would love a forever home with you.
This week’s featured adoptable pet from Elmore County Humane Shelter is Scarlet, and she is 1-and-a-half years old and about a 45-pound girl. Scarlet is very loving and also an active gal that does good with other dogs that are her size or larger, but no small dogs or cats, please. She does fine with children, is very playful and housetrained. She is also learning to walk nicely on a leash with the help of super volunteers that help animals at this shelter. Scarlet has lovely coloring, with beautifully blended grey and white stripes, almost as if wearing a tuxedo.
Remember, more than 200,000 animals are so unwanted that they are euthanized at shelters across Alabama each year; you could open your home and save one or more of these by adopting and giving them a forever home.
This shelter still operates under the COVID-19 regulations, and there are no walk-through adoptions. You will need to get an application form from hselco@bekksouth.net. Once approved, you can get an appointment to visit with the animals there and choose the one(s) that speak(s) to you. Adoption fees for dogs are still $100 and include mandatory spay/neuter, microchip, rabies, and basic vaccinations, and check for heartworms, plus a visit at your participating veterinarian. You can call the shelter at 334-567-3377.
Until next time, love your pets the way they love you, unconditionally.
