Special to the News
A three-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. last Friday, May 7, has claimed the life of a Columbus, Ga. woman.
Meco-Takia Waverly, 37, of Columbus, Ga., was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler that struck a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado in the rear, which was driven by a juvenile, 17, of Pace, Fla.
The Silverado then collided with a 2021 Toyota Rav-4 driven by Mariza Sia, 37, of Decatur, Ga. After striking the Silverado, Waverly ran off the roadway into the grass median, which caused fatal injuries to the front seat passenger, Lolita Thomas, 49, of Columbus, Ga.
Thomas was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was transported to a local area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The crash occurred on Interstate 65 at the 164-mile marker, approximately one mile south of Montgomery in Montgomery County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
