Lessons learned from poor service
Hard to realize that we are already in May and it is still on the cool spring weather side and not hot as usual. If the pollen would just finish and move out, it would be perfect.
Wednesday was Cinco de Mayo, so I hope those of you who enjoy Mexican vittles were able to have some greatly flavored dishes with that south-of-the-border flair. I love Mexican food and look forward to being able to go out again and be served to enjoy authentic meals. I do pretty well at home myself, but out of energy to stand and cook just now. It is wonderful to have something special like Mexican food to look forward to in the near future.
Happy birthday to my dear friends now moved, Pat Garnett to Odenville, and Bong Koczur in Orlando, Fla; Barbara Stephens is still in Equality, and they all celebrate birthdays on May 11. Good wishes to Lee Roy Shaw for May 13.
When Ron and I got our second COVID-19 vaccination we didn’t fancy the idea of coming home and starting from scratch on something for our dinner, so we just stopped at Big B (on Alabama Highway 22), which is on our way home, to collect a sandwich to take home. We should have gone the extra mile to the BBQ place on the corner of 280/63, or the always delicious meals at Sho Nuff BBQ. Sometimes haste does make waste. The sandwich we got home was just about all fat. Ron grills a great pork butt so we were looking for at least some good meat.
I have always wanted and thought good service to customers deserved recognition and often sent a note to say how much I appreciated the service I was shown; by the same token, if service is awful, it should also be noted just to be fair.
In the mid-1980s, we went for dinner at the now-closed Country’s BBQ in Montgomery; I always enjoyed the food there. This time I noticed a thick clod of mud still stuck to my baked potato under the foil. I called for the owner to come by, but he just wanted to argue; so we didn’t eat at that location after the episode. I did write a note to the owner of Big B BBQ about the inedible meat/fat; after all, if it was my place I’d want to know. That was more than a month ago, and I haven’t heard anything in the form of a reply; it’s a lesson learned.
I am set up with my IV infusions at home; presently they run 24 hours to provide the needed nourishment and nutrition, which does confine me. The home health RN comes weekly to change the dressing around the port. So, my Ron is kept busy with the household, the animals, and my care.
Mother Nature did a fabulous job this past week. The sunshine is so healthy for us and does seem to make us feel happier. Just hearing all the birds singing brightens my days, and catching a glimpse of a pretty one is very special.
I’m hoping that all of you mamas out there will enjoy a special Mothering Sunday; maybe someone will bring dinner over to your house, that way you can really have a relaxing “do nothing” day. I will be thinking of my mum. I still miss her very much; she always knew the perfect thing to say and would give great advice or an idea if you asked for some. My mum was a great cook, made super meals and delicious desserts and cakes. She was generally very caring, kind, generous, and thoughtful. The perfect mother indeed, probably just like yours.
I heard that the doughnut shop that had closed in Alex City was having its own building done and will be located right next to KFC; I can’t wait. The only thing is that they will only make a certain number of buns each morning, and when they are sold, that is it, no more until the next day. So this will be a “before noon” place to shop for a tasty doughnut treat. The early bird does get the worm.
Until next week, enjoy the southern sunshine (some places are still getting a snowing) and keep smiling.
