February 3-May 12

Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama will be offering free income tax service in Rockford. They will be located in the E-911 building on Communication Drive each Wednesday from 9 to 2 beginning February 3 until May 12. Parking is at the rear of the building. Anyone wanting to get their income tax return prepared needs to bring all the documentation necessary to prepare their return, including a photo ID for the taxpayer and spouse, as well as their prior-year tax return. You may call the main location in Alexander City (256-234-0347) for an appointment or more information. Be sure to tell them you are in Coosa County and want an appointment at Rockford.

 

May 8

Poplar Point Camp is hosting an Open House at the camp on May 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to come to visit and tour the camp, as well as have the opportunity to sign up for summer camp. For more information call 256-377-2606.

 

May 10 and 12

The Coosa County Extension Office will offer the ServSafe Food Safety Certification Course May 10 and 12 at the E-911 building located at 66 Communication Drive, Rockford. ServSafe is food safety training for food service workers as required by the ADPH. The training is also for any food permit holders meeting the ADPH requirements. The registration fee is $125 and includes a book, exam fees, and course materials. To register call the Coosa County Extension Office at 256-377-4713 (Monday through Friday – 8 a.m.-4 p.m.). The registration deadline is May 7.

 

May 15

Find your treasure at the Pirate Pickers Event on May 15 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Spaces are $10 each. Concessions will be sold by Weogufka Center only. Participants set up that morning; bring your own tables and change. Unsold items must be removed from the area immediately after the event. Neighborhood Watch will have its yard sale at this event. Activities will be outdoors only and in compliance with CDC regulations. This event is sponsored by the Weogufka Center for Arts, Education, and Entertainment. Volunteers are needed to help build and plant three new garden areas at the 4-H Clubhouse in Hanover on May 15 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. We will be installing a new butterfly garden and a new pollinator garden, as well as rebuilding the existing frog pond. Please register with the 4-H agent, Janet Lovelady, at 256-284-3572.

Bibb Graves Community Center in Millerville will have Trade Day Saturday, May 15, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Great merchandise inside the old school at the Shoppes of Millerville. Free vendor set up outside for items you want to sell. Food items are available for sale inside.

 

May 22

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center will host May Day, a fundraiser event for parks and recreation, on Saturday, May 22. For more information call 256-743-1252 or 256-839-6301.

 

June 6-25

Registration is now open for Poplar Point Camp’s summer camp! Summer camp will be from June 6-11 for 7-11-year-olds and from June 20-25 for 7-11 and 11-18-year-olds. June 1

The summer program for the Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center kicks off on June 1. The summer program ends July 30. For more information call Sharonna Hayes at 256-743-1252.

 

June 7-9

Coosa County 4-H is accepting registrations for 4-H Summer Camp, which will be held June 7-9 at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana. Please call or visit the Extension office in Rockford for more information at 256-377-4713.

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

The Hanover Neighborhood Watch Meeting is held every third Tuesday of the month at the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department building at 6:30 p.m. Always a meal before the meeting begins. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System Food Safety Team is working hard to provide food safety information to our clients in Alabama. This year, the food safety agents will provide current information on various subjects on the first Tuesday of every month at noon. We ask you to join us LIVE @acesfoodsafety on Facebook. Questions for the “Tuesday’s Table Talk” may be submitted to www.aces.edu/go/TableTalkTuesdays. The panel will answer questions live on Facebook @acesfoodsafety. Topics are planned for the first Tuesday of each month from now through November.
