Ashland man arrested for deceptive theft
By Christa Jennings
Woodrow Dougherty
An Ashland man was recently arrested for allegedly committing theft by deception for unperformed work.
A report was filed with the Sheriff’s Office in reference to an individual portraying himself as being with a construction business. Sheriff Michael Howell said that the suspect received a check from the victim and cashed it, but did not perform any work or service as agreed.
On April 20, 37-year-old Woodrow Dougherty was arrested on the charge of theft by deception.
His bond was set at $2,500, and he has since been released on bond to await trial.
Anyone who suspects or observes illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
