Nixburg Baptist enjoys Easter service
Spring is here, and the pollen is high from the trees and shrubs. The insects should love it; us people, not so much.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Martha Loyd (April 14) my former Dame Ruby, Joyce Carlton of Sylacauga (April 22), and then another Red hatter now in Tennessee, Anne Hicks (April 23). All three are very special ladies that I miss visiting with as we used to do years ago.
Ron and I got our second COVID-19 vaccination last Friday at the Russell affiliate health office. They are on the ball there, all very nice and keeping appointments right on time or ahead. We need to still be careful and wear our masks for two more weeks, and then we look forward to going out to eat lunch, which will be so exciting and a lovely change for us.
A great gathering was enjoyed by the church family at Nixburg Baptist Church on Easter Sunday, led by Rev. Peggie Sue Ott, after many months of cleaning and disinfecting, but no services because of COVID-19. The congregation was all excited to be meeting up together again after so many months of phone visits and weekly letters from Ms. Peggie. They all look forward to having some semblance of normalcy to creep back into their lives again, hopefully very soon. Most of the church members now have already received their vaccinations in order to be ready to congregate.
Sadness hit the United Kingdom last week when Prince Philip, the duke of Edinburgh, died at the age of 99, missing his 100th birthday by only about two months. The duke had been ill recently and spent a stay in the hospital, as well. He and his bride, Queen Elizabeth II, loved each other and enjoyed a very happy married life together, as theirs was not an arranged marriage like some, but a loving relationship. The queen will miss her loving supportive partner of some 75 years, but she is a strong survivor herself. The queen and my mother were just a few years apart in age, and I often thought that my mum resembled the queen quite a bit. I think that was because of the fact that they grew up in the same time frame, wearing similar style clothes for special events, hats and hairstyles. Growing up, in the greater London area, everyone had such great respect for the royal family, especially the Queen Mother, also living a long life until she was 101, and always such a beauty herself.
We shall be getting the last two of our dogs groomed this week by Jamie Phillips; then they will all be ready for the warmer weather that we know is on the way to us, certainly by May 1.
My azaleas have been full of blooms this year and so beautiful; I have also enjoyed others’ dogwoods. My pink one bloomed and is almost finished now, but I think with this past year and the crazy weather, my white ones didn’t fare so well.
Enjoy the lovely sunshine and blue skies when they are here for us, and until next week, keep smiling.
