Rockford Utilities announces new hires
By Crystal Glenn
At its regular scheduled monthly meeting last Tuesday, the Rockford Utilities Board began its meeting in executive session to interview numerous potential candidates for the two open job positions.
One position was for a full-time maintenance person to assist in the daily operations with sewer, gas and water services. The other was a position for a part-time office employee to assist with phone calls, payments and daily management.
Once the board ended its executive session, Chair Ronnie Brown announced that they had chosen Anthony Bordon for the full-time maintenance position and Jennifer Ayers for the part-time office position.
Because of the medical absence of Kelly Berry, utility clerk, the board was unable to approve the minutes from last month’s meeting or follow a set agenda. Therefore they tabled any votes until the next meeting.
In open discussion, Utilities Superintendent Wade Brown informed the board that he was in the process of collecting quotes for the building of the new office. At this time they are considering a metal building to be erected and new bids to be taken for finishing out the interior.
In other news, Chair Brown was excited to notify board members of the approval of a USDA grant for $720,258. This grant will be used to build a new wastewater treatment plant in place of the one currently in use.
The grant money will become available after an environmental impact review is completed and a financial analysis is done.
All board members were present at the meeting in addition to Superintendent Brown and Jason Thornton. The meeting was adjourned at 7:44 p.m.
The Rockford Utilities Board will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
