Upcoming church services, Historical Society meeting
Spring has sprung! Last week as I was writing we had predictions of severe weather and again this week the same thing. There were several tornados in the state, but Coosa County was spared. Praying for safety again this week. School will resume on Monday, so those buses will be on the road again.
The tax deadline has been extended until May 17 so there is extra time to get your taxes done. Usually, the state follows the federal guidelines; however, from what we’ve been told it will be different. While the deadline to file state returns has been extended, we’ve been told that if you owe then the penalty will be waived until May 17, but interest will be charged beginning April 16. So, please contact your state legislatures and ask them to change to completely mirror the federal guidelines in relation to state income tax returns.
Churches are beginning to resume more services as the weather warms and COVID-19 numbers are decreasing. Providence Baptist youth will begin meeting this Sunday night, March 28, at 6 p.m. at the church. If you know a youth that doesn’t have a church home, please share this. We are also planning to have sunrise service Easter morning. Look next week for an update on time and any other churches that will be having special Easter services. Providence will again have two services this Sunday, drive-in at 9 and inside worship at 11.
The Historical Society plans to have their quarterly meeting in April. I will have more information on that closer to the date. We are looking forward to meeting again. You don’t have to be a member to attend, but we welcome new members. Dues are only $15 for a year. If interested, send a check to P.O. Box 5; Rockford, AL 35136 to join. Newsletters are sent quarterly, along with having quarterly meetings. We will be celebrating 50 years in 2022.
Last week my Bible readings and the scripture I shared was about faith. This week, it has continued on faith and trusting God. Proverbs 3: 5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” If we lean only on ourselves, we will fall eventually. We need to give our entire lives over to God, not just our problems and fears. So many times we try to do things on our own because we think it is too insignificant for God! Or we only call on Him in times of trouble. God wants us to depend on and trust Him in everything all the time. It’s easy to say or write, but much harder to actually do. Human nature tends to be contradictory toward that complete trust. I struggle with this, and I’m sure I’m not alone.
Please continue to be in prayer for the sick in our community and to those that have lost loved ones. God knows their names and needs. Until next week, take care and be joyful!
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
